Warren Barton says Danny Ings is perfect for West Ham not Tottenham

Southampton striker Danny Ings has been linked with moves to West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

New and improved Europa League still a massive achievement for West Ham

Ings is at a contract impasse with Saints and has been linked with both the Hammers and Tottenham in the summer.

West Ham are very keen to sign Ings according to talkSPORT presenter Alex Crook.

And Tottenham have also been heavily linked with a recent game between them and Southampton described as an ‘audition’ for Ings (Football London).

Ings linked with moves to West Ham and Tottenham

West Ham have struggled at times without injury-prone Michail Antonio for spells this season.

In much the same way Tottenham struggle when Harry Kane is sidelined with his own injury issues.

Ings hit another brace for Southampton in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace last night.

That took the West Ham and Tottenham target’s tally to 12 for the season from 24 starts.

In demand Saints striker perfect for West Ham not Spurs says former Prem star

With a goal ratio of around one in two, Ings will certainly be sought after if he does leave the Saints in the summer.

And former Premier League star turned pundit Warren Barton believes Ings would be perfect for West Ham but not Tottenham (Sky Sports’s Football Show).

“(West Ham) is a great shout and I think that would be something David Moyes would love,” Barton told Sky Sports’s Football Show (Tuesday 11am).

“No (I don’t think he is right for Tottenham) if I’m being honest. I think if Spurs have got other aspirations. Also I think the style of play they want to play is high energy, high tempo. Does Danny fit into that system? No.

‘West Ham are a great shout but Spurs play a certain way’

“But a West Ham team that are maybe a little bit on the counter attack and can maybe use him as a figure and then build off around him so maybe there’s the option there.

“Listen most big clubs want an array of strikers up front. But I just think the style of football (at Spurs, wouldn’t fit).

“West Ham would be a great shout because they’re a team that can rely on the counter attack. They’re a team that needs someone with limited chances who can put the ball in the back of the net.

“So that’s a good shout. But not Spurs, from their point of view they play a certain way and need someone with a bit more energy who can run in behind.”
