The future of injured West Ham United midfielder Carlos Sanchez is in doubt according to a new transfer report.

Sanchez, a deadline day signing from Fiorentina, is out for the season with a serious knee injury.

And he could have played his last game for West Ham with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama once again being linked as his replacement (Sky Sports).

Manuel Pellegrini raised eyebrows when he signed the journeyman holding midfielder in the summer.

Many felt the Colombian was no better than players West Ham let go in Cheikhou Kouyate and Edimilson Fernandes.

Howler and injury made for miserable start to Hammers career

Sanchez had a decent game in an unfortunate defeat away at Arsenal.

But he followed that up by gifting Wolves a late winner in a 1-0 defeat at the London Stadium.

The former Aston Villa flop then got injured during an 8-0 cup win over Macclesfield.

Now a transfer report assessing the progress of West Ham’s summer signings claims Sanchez may be shipped out in the summer with Spurs back-up midfielder Wanyama coming in.

‘Pellegrini has been linked with Wanyama’

“Ruled out since September with a knee injury, two league starts have not really been much to judge Sanchez on,” the Sky Sports report states.

“But considering he may be 33 by the time he returns, it doesn’t look exceptionally promising for the veteran midfielder. Especially as Pellegrini has been linked with a move for Spurs’ Victor Wanyama in January.”

The Sun claimed in October that Pellegrini is keen to sign Wanyama in January.

Major upgrade

The Kenyan has struggled to establish himself as a first team starter in North London.

But he would be a major upgrade on what Pellegrini has at his disposal.

Indeed should West Ham lure the former Southampton man to the London Stadium they would suddenly start to look a serious outfit in the middle of the park.

And given the attacking talent the Hammers possess that could help their push for the European places which are now within their grasp after a fine run of form.
