The president of Argentinian side River Plate has ruled out a move for West Ham star Manuel Lanzini. Speaking to DirecTV Sports via AS, River Plate president Rodolfo D’Onofrio said signing Lanzini would be “impossible” because he is too expensive.

Lanzini recently told the Argentinian media via AS that he would love to return to River Plate one day. But an immediate return is not on the cards.

River Plate president D’Onofrio has dismissed speculation linking the club with a swoop for Lanzini because of his hefty price tag.

West Ham have Lanzini tied down until summer 2020 with an option to extend that deal and many fans are hoping he is rewarded with a new contract.

In an interview with DirecTV Sports (translated by Sport Witness), D’Onofrio said: “He’s worth between 40 and 50 million euros, it’s impossible to return now.”

Lanzini is nicknamed the “Little Jewel” and he has shown his talent for West Ham since his move from Al Jazira. The Argentina international is a creative midfield playmaker who has scored 20 goals for the Hammers.

The 26-year-old has recently returned from injury and is hoping to get back to his best before the end of the season after showing signs of promise.
