Tottenham's Wanyama would be a big Obiang upgrade for West Ham

West Ham have already been busy during this summer’s transfer window. And signing Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama really would be the icing on the cake.

EXWHUEmployee revealed on The West Ham Way podcast on Phoenix FM (Wednesday 17th July) that the 27-year-old Spurs man is a target for the Hammers this summer.

Manuel Pellegrini is allegedly keen to sell Pedro Obiang for around £10 million this summer, and if the midfielder leaves the London Stadium, bringing in Wanyama really would be a massive upgrade.

The Kenyan is a tenacious ball-winning midfielder. He loves the physical battle, and he would add a solid layer of protection to West Ham’s back four.

With 56 international caps to his name, and 335 senior appearances at club level under his belt, Wanyama would add real experience to the West Ham setup.

He has more energy than Obiang

When fully fit, the Tottenham ace has great stamina. His ability to get round the pitch, and close down the opposition would be a great asset for the Hammers.

Rice could learn from the Kenyan

Now, the 20-year-old is already an elite player, but he would only benefit from having someone like Wanyama playing alongside him.

He still has a lot to prove

The Spurs man would be hungry to succeed at West Ham, given his lack of game-time in north London last season.

Quite how much it will take for the Hammers to prise him away from White Hart Lane remains to be seen.

Pellegrini must do everything within his power to make it happen, however.

It could turn out to be a signing that transforms West Ham into genuine top six hopefuls next season.
