Tottenham reportedly lead race for Sam Johnstone in huge blow for West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur are now leading West Ham United in the race to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone according to a report from ESPN.

In other news…Report claims £15m Chelsea ace could realistically join West Ham in the summer

The Athletic claimed earlier this week that Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bring the Baggies stopper to the London Stadium this summer for around £7.5 million.

It seems as though Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has stolen a march in the race to sign the 28-year-old, however.

West Ham desperately need to sign a new goalkeeper over the course of the next 12 months.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Lukasz Fabianski and Darren Randolph will be 36 and 34 respectively before the start of the new season. Meanwhile, none of the Hammers’ young stoppers are ready to be playing regular first-team football in the Premier League.

Tottenham are in the same boat. Hugo Lloris has been poor over the past 18 months. Meanwhile, Joe Hart just isn’t the same player he once was.

Sam Johnstone would be a superb addition for either the Hammers or Spurs.

Tottenham leading West Ham in Sam Johnstone race?

That’s what ESPN reckon.

Missing out on the 28-year-old West Brom ace to Spurs would be a massive blow for the Hammers.

Johnstone is exactly the kind of player David Moyes should be looking to sign.

The Athletic claims that Sam Allardyce could be willing to let the former Manchester United goalkeeper leave the Hawthorns for just £7.5 million if West Brom get relegated.

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, the Baggies stopper cuts an imposing figure. He is dominant in the air, a great shot stopper and is a very impressive communicator.

In 123 games for West Brom, Johnstone has let in 166 goals whilst keeping 29 clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).

£7.5 million for his signature would be an absolute steal.

And it seems as though Tottenham are currently best placed to sign him. Let’s hope West Ham manage to usurp our London rivals in the race for the West Brom goalkeeper.

Things aren’t looking good at the moment though.
