West Ham are in talks to sign a striker before next week’s transfer deadline according to a respected journalist.

After the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, many believed West Ham’s transfer business was done for the summer.

But a top club spokesman exclusively told Hammers News West Ham could still make two or three more signings before Friday’s deadline.

As reported, though, that will depend on West Ham’s ability to ship players out of the club.

Since that revelation, Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui has confirmed West Ham remain active in the window.

The fiercely ambitious Spaniard has stated he wants two players in every position.

And after his maiden victory at Crystal Palace, Lopetegui once again reiterated players could come and go this week.

The Hammers are said to be keen to bring in another midfielder and a younger striker with pace.

PSG midfielder Carlos Soler is reportedly edging closer to joining the Irons on loan with an obligation to buy.

In fact that deal, which would be West Ham’s ninth of the summer, could be completed on Monday according to reports this weekend.

The Hammers have also been heavily linked with Villa’s Jhon Duran and Roma’s Tammy Abraham among others.

This weekend a French journalist who first broke news of Lucas Paqueta joining West Ham, claimed Abraham will join the Hammers before the transfer deadline.

Board source responds to new Abraham claim

Now a top journalist claims West Ham are indeed in talks to sign the striker and a board source has responded.

Respected Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio claims Roma and West Ham ‘are in contact for the possible sale of Tammy Abraham’.

Di Marzio claims the Hammers have made an offer close to Roma’s request for the striker’s rights and are now talking to Abraham – who has a very high salary and the benefit of tax breaks in Italy which he would not get back in England.

In light of the breaking news, top West Ham board source Sean Whetstone has spoken to his contacts at the club.

And he tells an entirely different story.

“Still no substance in these (Abraham) claims says West Ham sources,” Whetstone said in response to Di Marzio posting out his story.

Hammers could be set for frantic final week of window

West Ham fans should not despair just yet, though.

Just because the Hammers are denying it to contacts does not mean a move is not afoot.

Sometimes it is in West Ham’s interests to play down transfer talk or stay tight-lipped.

Especially when other clubs might be interested. Or if the Hammers don’t want to appear to keen to complete a deal while in negotiations.

Just last week it was claimed West Ham midfield ace Edson Alvarez could return to the squad for the game at Palace.

It was said that would be a miracle. Yet there Alvarez was, not only in the squad, but on the pitch as a second half sub.

Although with talk Alvarez could be sold, that comeback may prove to be rather ominous.

One thing is for certain, the last week of the window will be anything but dull for West Ham fans.
