West Ham have stepped up their hunt for a new striker. According to trusted insider EXWHUEmployee, West Ham have made an official bid for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.

The Hammers have been interested in Gomez since last January (The Guardian). Mario Husillos has thoroughly scouted the 22-year-old and Manuel Pellegrini sees him as his key target.

Gomez has been in Europe for two seasons. During that time, he has scored 30 goals for Celta Vigo. But he is set for a new challenge this summer with West Ham and Valencia keen.

According to Sky Sports News, West Ham and Valencia have both had £29m bids accepted for Gomez. But EXWHUEmployee says this report is premature: the bid has been lodged, but not yet accepted.

Gomez would almost surely be West Ham’s first-choice centre-forward. The Uruguay international’s goalscoring record in La Liga is a good sign for success in England.

West Ham have already lost Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez this summer. Javier Hernandez has also been linked with a summer exit, paving the way for Gomez to join.

Gomez would either compete with Marko Arnautovic at The London Stadium or work alongside him. But with a bid in now, it could be time to get excited soon.
