West Ham United have been heavily linked with a move to sign free agent Ryan Fraser this summer but he could end up at Newcastle United.

Newcastle star switches to Sullivan’s preferred agent as West Ham links resurface

West Ham boss David Moyes has already missed out to Newcastle for free agent Jeff Hendrick – read full story here.

Cash-strapped West Ham linked with Moyes’s fellow Scot Fraser

The Sun claimed earlier this week that West Ham want Fraser and his former Bournemouth teammate Callum Wilson.

Fraser, 26, has a host of Premier League clubs chasing him given his status as a free transfer.

Neither West Ham nor Newcastle are expected to spend big this summer.

Newcastle are still reeling from the collapse of their proposed Saudi-led takeover. Mike Ashley is highly unlikely to give Steve Bruce significant funds while he is actively trying to sell.

And West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold have told Moyes he has a zero transfer budget and must buy to sell this summer (Claret & Hugh).

Sports journalist claims Newcastle lead the race for coveted free agent

West Ham fans were excited at the prospect of signing Fraser, who was only second to Kevin de Bruyne in chances created over the last two years in the Premier League (Whoscored.com).

But former deputy sports editor Andy Ridgwell has claimed Fraser is close to joining Newcastle.

Ridgwell reported that West Ham and Crystal Palace were doing battle for Fraser.

Indeed The Sun also claims the Eagles offered Fraser a £50,000-a-week deal and West Ham were willing to match it.

But the sports journalist of 20 years claimed on Twitter that Newcastle are now leading the chase.

Ryan Fraser to Newcastle now very likely to happen,” Ridgwell claimed on Twitter.

Offered a lot more than the other two clubs involved. I must stress that both West Ham and Palace have a chance to offer more than Newcastle but, the player wants to find a club asap and Newcastle currently looks likely.

“Newcastle have missed out on a target meaning they’re putting everything into this Fraser deal. Player still would prefer a move to Palace.”

Things go from bad to worse for Moyes in transfer window

If Ridgwell’s claims are accurate things seems to be going from bad to worse for Moyes and West Ham.

Moyes is watching his transfer plans go up in smoke after a lack of backing from the owners.

That’s after West Ham’s London rivals Fulham and Crystal Palace closed in on deals for his three main attacking targets.

Crystal Palace have reportedly agreed a £16m fee for Moyes’s prime target – QPR star Eberechi Eze (Sky Sports).

And the two strikers being eyed by West Ham – Brentford’s Ollie Watkins and Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson – could both end up at newly-promoted Fulham (Sky Sports).
