This January’s transfer window started off in a bad way for West Ham. We were met with the rejection of Heitinga and also Lacina Traore. It left us fans wondering if we were ever going to sign someone of some quality. To add to our pain, we ended up signing Wolves defender ROger Johnson, a League One player. So, now as we near the end of the window we have been met with the possibility of signing three players.

The first player in question is Roma striker Marco Borriello. Marco, is rumoured to have already agreed to join us on loan until the end of the season, and has already said goodbye to Roma fans on Twitter. We have been left short up front so it was only likely that we were going to be linked with a forward. If my memory serves me right then I think we were also linked with him in the summer. Borriello is a passionate player, but has only scored one goal this season in the limited number of appearances he has had at Roma, often sanctioned to the bench. His most prolific season came when he played for Genoa on loan, scoring 12 goals in 26 appearances.

Another player who is rumoured to be joining us is Antonio Nocerino from AC Milan. It is rumoured to be a loan deal until the end of the season with a view to a permanent one. This is the player I am perhaps most excited about. A season or so ago Nocerino was a top player, consistently playing in the AC Milan first team. However this season he has been limited to only 11 appearances. I think he is a top player and if we can rediscover his form, he could prove to be our best midfield player.

The final player we have been linked with is Ross McCormack of Leeds. McCormack has recently been made captain by Leed’s boss Brian McDermott, after being in fine goal-scoring form totalling 18 goals this season making him the Championship top scorer. We are rumoured to have bid around £3 million for him, but that was rejected last night. We are expected to come back in with another bid, but our valuation of the player is different to that of Leed’s. If we sign him I think he will prove to be a good signing if he can make the step up. I also think we will see something that is rarely seen at West Ham nowadays, two up front.

So, I think that if we do sign these players then we have a very good chance of staying up. Nocerino I feel will provide the most impact in our team, and McCormack will be a risk worth taking.
