‘Talks continue’ Journalist David Ornstein makes major claim in West Ham striker chase as he insists Hammers will not be deterred

Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri is West Ham United’s prime target this month, not Boulaye Dia, and the Hammers won’t be deterred by a rejected bid.

Said Benrahma seems unhappy and detached as cynics circle but it can and will work

That’s according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The Athletic reported West Ham have bid £22.5million plus another £4.5m in add-ons for the Moroccon forward.

En-Nesyri is West Ham’s prime target not Dia and they won’t be deterred by rejected bid claims Ornstein

En-Nesyri has 12 goals from 12 starts this season.

And according to reports, David Moyes wants him at West Ham as the east Londoners look to replace Sebastien Haller.

West Ham have been linked with a plethora of strikers since selling Haller to Ajax for £20m.

It was believed Reims striker Boulaye Dia was Moyes’s prime target.

But now Ornstein claims En-Nesyri is actually number one on West Ham’s hit list.

Sevilla have reportedly rejected West Ham’s opening bid (as also reported by Football Espana).

‘Talks continue’ and West Ham are ‘hopeful’

However Ornstein insists that has not deterred West Ham, who remain ‘in talks’ with the hope of getting a deal done.

“The Moroccan is thought to be their top target and a formal bid of €25 million (£22.5 million) plus €5 million (£4.5 million) in add-ons was lodged over the weekend,” Ornstein said on The Athletic.

“West Ham’s initial proposal was rejected but talks continue with the Premier League team hopeful of securing a player who has scored 18 goals in 50 appearances since arriving from Leganes 12 months ago.

“Sevilla paid En-Nesyri’s €20 million (£18 million) release clause and tied him down to a five-and-a-half-year contract but that has not deterred West Ham as they seek to bolster David Moyes’s squad.”

Hammers fans sceptical over club’s intent to sign Sevilla star

West Ham fans are extremely sceptical about the move for one of Sevilla’s key players.

The figures reported would represent a small profit for a player the Spanish club signed less than a year ago. Throw in his impressive goal record of better than one every three and it is easy to understand the cynicism.

West Ham’s funds are believed to be limited to the money they received for Haller. There is some talk another £5m could be put in by the owners too. That comes from savings reportedly made on instalments owed to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Moyes confirmed in his press conference ahead of the game against West Brom that West Ham are trying to sign players (whufc.com).
