West Ham United have been linked with an ambitious move for Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez.
A report from Italian website FC Inter News first linked West Ham with a shock bid for the Inter Milan loanee in the next transfer window.
Claret & Hugh quoted a ‘senior inside source’ at West Ham stating the focus in the next window was bringing in a strike partner to get the best out of record £45million signing Sebastien Haller.
Reports suggest Sanchez to West Ham has legs
That was followed by a report from The Daily Mail last week which suggested the speculation has legs.
Former West Ham and Manchester United star Paul Ince then back Sanchez for a move to the Hammers.
Ince told Paddy Power it would be ‘great business for West Ham’ and advised Sanchez to make his next move all about playing rather than money.
The Daily Mail has also suggested that West Ham and David Moyes are Sanchez’s “best bet” of resurrecting his flagging career.
Sky Sports reporter makes Sanchez claim
Now Sky Sports has released a report on the expected comings and goings at Manchester United this summer.
John Cooper is Sky Sports’s North West correspondent and has his finger on the pulse inside Old Trafford.
But his analysis of the Sanchez situation paints a bleak picture for West Ham’s hopes of signing the forward.
“United face a major dilemma when it comes Sanchez and, much like the (Paul) Pogba puzzle, it’s economics that might make it impossible to solve especially when combined with the unknown financial situation facing football when it returns,” Cooper said on Sky Sports.
“The nature of the Chilean’s deal means he would cost huge sums and his loan to Inter Milan has not gone according to plan on the pitch.
“Solskjaer said Sanchez would return to the club this summer and “prove people wrong”, but what else could he have said when it appears United may be stuck with him? Verdict: Stays.”
Sanchez would be a coup but he doesn’t fit Moyes transfer philosophy
Never say never in football.
And signing Sanchez would be a major coup for West Ham despite misgivings about his form over the last two years and his age.
But he does not fit the profile of player Moyes is targeting.
The Scot has made it perfectly clear he wants young, hungry players to build a new-look West Ham (whufc.com).
