Pablo Fornals scored a superb goal to earn Spain victory at the U21 European Championships. Fornals’ 89th-minute goal was the difference in their Group A win over Belgium.
The 23-year-old has just completed a move to West Ham from Villarreal. The club’s official website confirmed he was the second-most-expensive player in the club’s history.
Fornals had impressed for La Liga side Villarreal before joining Manuel Pellegrini in East London. And West Ham fans have the chance to watch him in action at the U21 Euros.
Pablo Fornals scores for Spain
After a disappointing opening day loss against Italy, Spain needed to bounce back against Belgium. And after Poland beat Italy, Group A has been blown wide open.
But with moments remaining, Spain were being held to a 1-1 draw. Dani Olmo’s sixth-minute strike had been cancelled out and the game was heading for a draw.
Fornals, however, had other ideas. The midfield playmaker picked the ball up from deep, drove at the Belgian defence and lashed in a powerful drive.
The late goal means Spain have it all to play for in the final Group match in the U21 Euros. And here are some tweets from West Ham fans after seeing Fornals’ goal.
