Spanish press claim West Ham have made Maxi Gomez breakthrough to beat Valencia to striker

West Ham United have beaten off competition to win the race to sign Maxi Gomez according to the Spanish press.

West Ham dramatically stepped up their efforts to sign Celta Vigo striker Gomez in the last four days.

It comes after the Hammers agreed to sell Marko Arnautovic following the player’s transfer request (whufc.com).

After the depatures of Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez before him that leaves Manuel Pellegrini with wantaway Javier Hernandez as his only senior striker.

As a result West Ham are becoming increasingly desperate to add at least one, if not two, new forwards to their squad.

Pellegrini’s forward thinking

Uruguayan forward Gomez has been the Chilean’s prime striker target since January.

West Ham want the 22-year-old as part of a young, talented team being forged by Pellegrini and Mario Husillos.

The Gomez pursuit has had more twists than the London Stadium’s Orbital Tower. West Ham fans don’t know whether they are coming or going.
