West Ham United delegates have reportedly travelled to Spain to launch a bid for Celto Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.

Radio Vigo, part of Cadena Ser, have confirmed an entourage from the Hammers are in Vigo to discuss a deal for a player Manuel Pellegrini wanted to sign in the summer.

The Uruguayan striker reportedly has a release clause of £45m and has scored 26 La Liga goals in 50 starts.

Pellegrini is exploring striker targets as West Ham ready themselves to sell wantaway star Marko Arnautovic to Chinese side Shanghai SIPG.

West Ham and Celta Vigo disagree over valuation – report

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday night that West Ham and Celta Vigo are some way about on their valuation of the player. Other sources claim Barcelona are also interested.

But South American football expert Tim Vickery has told talkSPORT Gomez will ‘definitely be on the move’ and has tipped him to arrive in the Premier League.

“The Uruguyan in Spain (that everyone is talking about at the moment) is Maxi Gomez,” Vickery told talkSPORT.

“He will definitely be moving on and his club Celta Vigo have already lined up a replacement for him which is a big sign that Maxi Gomez is going to be moving on and they will expect to make big money on him.

‘Look out Premier League’

“He’s a bull-like striker and if he doesn’t go to Barcelona as a potential long-term Luis Suarez replacement, then look for the Premier League because you could see him going in there… he is a coming man.”

From Vickery’s description Gomez sounds like another former Hammers hero from South America Carlos Tevez.

It would be a major coup if Pellegrini can pull off the signing.

And it would help soften the blow of losing Arnautovic.

Another astute Pellegrini addition?

At 22 Gomez would be another astute signing from Pellegrini. He might need some time to settle into life in the Premier League but West Ham are comfortable this season.

Firstly it remains to be seen whether Arnautovic gets his wish to leave. Then it will be down to the Hammers to pull off the Gomez signing.

Owners David Sullivan and David Gold surely won’t allow Arnautovic to leave the club until they have a firm agreement over a replacement coming in the other direction.
