According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato West Ham are one of three clubs looking to sign the former Chelsea, Liverpool and Sunderland striker.
The 29-year-old is a free agent having left Hellas Verona after a brief spell.

West Ham linked with free agent Borini
And that is apparently attracting West Ham who have no money for transfers this summer (Claret & Hugh).
West Ham have also been linked with free agents Daniel Sturridge and Mario Gotze.
Borini worked with Hammers boss David Moyes at Sunderland.
It is not the first time he has been linked with a move to West Ham.

Journeyman has never set the world alight
But the Italian has never particularly set the world alight at any of his clubs, becoming something of a footballing nomad.
Borini has scored just 47 goals in 264 career appearances.
So when Borini was linked with West Ham this week, supporters were somewhat underwhelmed.
Hammers fans were already angry with co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold before the revelation Moyes has a zero transfer budget (Claret & Hugh).
Links to free agents like Borini only serve to poke the hornet’s nest.
Here are a selection of comments from West Ham fans on the links to Borini.
