Sky Sports maps out Manuel Pellegrini's grand West Ham plan as pundit highlights three plus points

A detailed report from Sky Sports has shed some light on Manuel Pellegrini’s grand plans for the summer and next season.

The Hammers finished a respectable 10th in the Chilean’s debut campaign.

Given the Premier League-worst injury list West Ham nursed for most of the season it was a satisfactory effort.

Owners David Sullivan and David Gold backed Pellegrini with £100million last summer.

Hammers summer spend won’t match last season

The Hammers look set to spend again in the close season. But not to the same level. And with any arrivals very much dependent on money raised from departures.

Now a new report from Sky Sports has mapped out the club’s plans in the transfer window and their aims for next season.

After a relatively successful first campaign back in England, Pellegrini has already set his sights on securing European football next season and is keen to bolster his attacking options this summer,” Sky Sports’s Nick Lustig claims.

“Pellegrini also wants to add to his defensive options, with a centre-back and left-back on his wish list.

Six in, seven out and eyes on Europe

“West Ham will attempt to offload a number of fringe players in a bid to raise further funds for Pellegrini. They will listen to offers for Javier Hernandez, Lucas Perez, Pedro Obiang, Reece Oxford, Sam Byram, Jordan Hugill and Edimilson Fernandes.

“West Ham will look to bring in a second goalkeeper to vie with Lukasz Fabianski after Adrian’s departure, while a left-back, centre-back, right-back, centre midfielder and striker are also on Pellegrini’s wish list.”

West Ham fans are already well aware of the dead wood that needs to be shifted. Getting money in for those players is another thing entirely.

Pundit highlights three plus points for Hammers

But in the report Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith highlighted three plus points for the Hammers this summer.

  1. Many of the players signed last summer such as Ryan Fredericks and Andriy Yarmolenko should be better or injury free for next season
  2. Manuel Lanzini is key and will have a full pre-season behind him
  3. Encouraged by links to Salomon Rondon to fill the striker void
