Should West Ham be worried by recent Amadou Onana Liverpool admission?

West Ham are apparently closing in on a deal to sign Amadou Onana from Lille but a recent admission that he made about Liverpool may be a big worry for the fans.

The 20-year-old Lille starlet recently told RMC Sport that he would jump at the chance to join a club like Liverpool:

“This connection between Lille and the Belgians has always worked very well. There is no reason for it not to work this time. These are players who have had a very good career, who are now at Liverpool and Real Madrid. If it goes like that for me, I sign immediately.”

West Ham have agreed a fee with Lille to sign Onana but personal terms still need to be discussed according to a report from Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg.

Sky Sports claim that the fee West Ham will be paying for the Belgian is around £33.5 million.

And until it’s officially confirmed, anything can happen, as is the case with any transfer.

So should Onana’s Liverpool admission concern the West Ham fans?

West Ham will hopefully get Amadou Onana deal done

Liverpool have actually been linked with a move to sign the 20-year-old midfielder recently.

The Athletic suggested that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring Onana to Anfield at some point.

The thing we have in our favour though is that the Belgium international is only 20.

He will be guaranteed far more regular football at West Ham than he would be at Liverpool.

We think he’ll prove to be a sensational addition for the Hammers, if Moyes does end up bringing him to the London Stadium.

The 6ft 5 in Belgium international possesses all of the attributes that West Ham currently lack. He is incredibly strong, has energy and stamina in abundance and is perfectly built for the intense nature of Premier League football.

Onana would certainly provide strong competition and cover for Tomas Soucek and at just 20, he has an incredibly high ceiling.

Onana is a really special talent. He has been described by Sport Magazine as a ‘sensational’ young player. Meanwhile, he’s been labelled as an ‘incredible’ player by Total Football Analysis.

In 32 Ligue 1 outings for Lille last season, Onana averaged 1.5 tackles and one interception per game. He made 20 passes on average per match and recorded a completion rate of 84% (Who Scored).

The young Belgian is one of the most exciting talents on the planet.

Considering his quality and potential, anything around £35-40 million would represent a good deal for the Hammers.

Some might be worried about Onana’s recent Liverpool admission.

We strongly believe that it’s nothing to be concerned about at this moment in time though.

Hopefully West Ham get the Amadou Onana deal done as soon as possible and it will be important to get him tied down to at least a five-year deal.

If we do sign him and he’s a huge success at the London Stadium, then we might have to start worrying about Liverpool!
