According to reports in Spain, Sheffield United want a former West Ham target. Informa Betis reports that Sheffield United are interested in Real Betis striker Loren Moron.
Sheffield United are chasing a new striker this summer. After winning promotion, Chris Wilder wants to add to his attacking ranks. And Moron could be his marquee striker addition.
Espanyol and Osasuna also want Moron. And all three clubs are reportedly well-placed to swoop. This would be frustrating for West Ham officials, who were rebuffed by Moron last summer.
Loren Moron rejects West Ham in summer 2018
Last summer, Moron was on West Ham’s radar. But the Irons were turned down by the player. According to Mundo Deportivo, West Ham were prepared to pay Moron’s release clause of €25m (just over £22m).
But the Spanish striker later explained that he rejected this move. Speaking to Estadio Deportivo (as translated by Football Espana), Moron said: “It is true there were several clubs who contacted me regarding their interest and we had one firm proposal from them (West Ham).
“I did not want to throw away the opportunity I have here at Betis after moving through the youth system and playing for the reserve side. I let my agents know, I told my parents and friends and told them that my intention was to stay and continue here.”
Who is Loren Moron?
Moron could have joined the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll in West Ham’s striker ranks. He had struck seven goals in 15 games for Real Betis prior to West Ham’s interest.
However, his 2018/19 campaign was underwhelming. The 25-year-old only scored six La Liga goals in 33 games. For £22m, this goal return would not exactly be value for money.
West Ham would not exactly be green with envy if rivals Sheffield United wrap up this signing during the summer.
