According to various reports, Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is West Ham’s top summer target. After failing to land Andre Gomes, West Ham have turned their attention to Hayden. And West Ham insider EXWHUEmployee appears to confirm this.

The former Arsenal midfielder wants to leave Newcastle this summer. Despite playing a key role in Rafa Benitez’s plans, Hayden wants to move down south for family reasons.

His partner and their daughter live in the south. And he wants to move closer to his family. The Chelmsford-born player would surely be interested in a West Ham move.

The London Evening Standard reports that West Ham are looking at alternatives to Gomes. With the 25-year-old keen to return to Everton, West Ham have been forced to look elsewhere.

Newcastle duo Jonjo Shelvey and Hayden are reportedly the next two on West Ham’s wishlist. Hayden will cost around £15m and improve the Irons’ homegrown quota.

The Daily Star also reports West Ham’s interest in Shelvey and Hayden. This report notes that Shelvey has been a long-term Hammers target but Hayden may be the preferable option. The 24-year-old is three years younger than his central midfield partner.

West Ham site Claret & Hugh adds another spin to this transfer story. It claims that Hayden is West Ham’s top option because the club have concerns about Shelvey’s injury record.

And reliable West Ham insider EXWHUEmployee has hinted that Hayden is the top target. EXWHUEmployee quoted a tweet claiming West Ham were keen on Jamaal Lascelles, Hayden and Shelvey, adding: “as said in May, all have been spoke about Hayden talks continuing…”
