West Ham United have been one of the stories of the transfer window so far this summer.
West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold pushed the boat out to bring Manuel Pellegrini to the club last year.
They then backed him with £100million worth of new recruits. That level of spending was unprecedented at West Ham.
Reports claimed at the start of the window that the Chilean would be given a base budget of just £30million this summer.
West Ham kitty and all that cash
But any funds raised through player sales would be handed to the West Ham boss too.
That leaves his current kitty at around £40m.
At the start of the window fellow Hammers site Claret and Hugh claimed Pellegrini wanted to bring in five or six new players.
That gave way to much speculation about who those players might be.
But it appears the true number could be more like seven if new reports are anything to go by.
Pellegrini could go for seven
So far West Ham have signed goalkeepers Roberto and David Martin. And Sky Sports reports West Ham are also on the verge of landing Spain midfielder Pablo Fornals in a £24m deal.
In the same report Sky claimed West Ham are working on five to six midfield targets this summer.
Pellegrini is said to be expecting progress on signings by next Wednesday or the following weekend.
Claret and Hugh then followed that up with their own version of events.
The site stated a senior club source had told confirmed the 7-10 day timescale for signings in an email.
“We expect to resolve the situation within 7-10 days and we have five or six targets,” C&H reports.
“The manager wants to attack teams and is looking for creative midfielders and we expect to get them done quickly.”
Grand plan coming together?
If Fornals is secured then it is believed West Ham’s unwavering focus will be on landing a defensive midfield partner for Declan Rice and a striker.
Maxi Gomez and Isaac Hayden are said to be the two prime targets for those roles in the Pellegrini and Mario Husillos master plan, read full story here.
Landing those two or players to fill those positions would take the tally to five.
It is then thought West Ham could look to the loan market to bring in another forward and a centre-back with Guillermo Maripan linked.
There has also been speculation (BBC Sport) that West Ham are close to signing Turkish left-back Hasan Ali Kaldirim.
