Reports claims David Moyes wants to bring the best defender in Holland to West Ham and he’s nicknamed The Gladiator.

A new name has entered the equation as West Ham look to bring in a new defender in the January transfer window.

There has been much talk of late about what Moyes needs to do next month after West Ham lost Angelo Ogbonna for the season to an ACL injury and Kurt Zouma long term too.

The Hammers have been linked with Man City’s Nathan Ake, Liverpool’s Nat Phillips and Burnley’s James Tarkowski.

Yesterday insiders Claret and Hugh claimed Moyes may be edging towards the latter two.

But now a new name is in the frame with Feyenoord’s Marcos Senesi reportedly being seriously considered by Moyes as West Ham’s defensive reinforcement next month (90Min).

Reports claims David Moyes wants to bring the best defender in Holland to West Ham and he’s nicknamed The Gladiator

Argentine Senesi is officially the best defender in the Eredivisie and is nicknamed The Gladiator.

90Min claim their sources have confirmed West Ham are interested in the 24-year-old and are one of a host of clubs who have had Senesi watched on a weekly basis. Presumably by West Ham’s new head of recruitment Rob Newman and his scouting team.

Feyenoord are currently trying to entice Senesi to sign a new deal as he has just 18-months left on his current contract.

But the player has made it clear he wants to try and force his way into Argentina’s Qatar World Cup squad and so a move to the higher profile Premier League could help him do just that.

The fact Senesi is into the last 18 months of his contract means West Ham may be looking to pick him up for a reasonable price.

West Ham cannot have been anything other than impressed when scouting The Gladiator.

He has a superb average match rating over well over 7/10 across the three seasons (WhoScored).

And Senesi has scored four goals and laid on four assists in the last 18 months too – not bad for a young defender.

He ticks all the boxes in terms of Moyes’s recruitment policy so this could be one to watch closely.

Senesi clearly has great pedigree but the Premier League will be a big step.

For that reason Moyes may opt for someone who is already up to speed with the English top flight.
