Adrien Rabiot was wanted by West Ham United last summer according to a reliable club insider.

But now he could be on his way to Everton or Manchester United instead.

West Ham insider ExWHUemployee told The West Ham Way podcast on Phoenix FM last summer that Rabiot was one of four midfield targets being chased by the club.

Insider confirmed Hammers wanted Rabiot

Rabiot had been frozen out by PSG as he had made it clear he wanted to leave on a free transfer.

West Ham seriously explored the possibility of snapping Rabiot up.

However he ended up moving to Juventus on a free transfer.

And West Ham ended up being desperately short in that position all season until the arrival of Tomas Soucek.

Rabiot has failed to establish himself at Juve, though, making just 24 appearances, most as a substitute.

Talk has emerged that Rabiot now wants to leave the Turin giants in search of more game time.

Midfielder open to move but mum’s the word for Everton and Man United

That might have given West Ham hope of rekindling their interest.

But according to respected Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, West Ham’s Premier League rivals Everton and Manchester United lead the chase.

And the key will be persuading Rabiot’s mum, who is also his agent after being fired and re-hired to the role.

“Rabiot is in no rush to come back and is already planning his future outside of Italy,” La Gazzetta dello Sport claims.

“His mother Veronique is in very early talks with Everton – who had already tried to sign Rabiot in January – and Manchester United with regards to a switch next season.

“Rabiot has been mentioned as a possible transfer pawn in the Paul Pogba exchange with Manchester United.”

With money tight for West Ham due to the global health crisis, it appears Rabiot is off the menu for David Moyes.

Both Everton and Man United have the resources to better cope with the financial impact of the pandemic.

Forget Rabiot, West Ham must focus on retaining Soucek

Indeed Everton’s wealthy backers may see it as an opportunity to take advantage of lower market values in their bid to reach the fabled next level.

West Ham and Everton are already reportedly in a battle for Napoli misfit Hirving Lozano (Il Mattino).

But West Ham fans won’t be too bothered about missing out on Rabiot or Lozano. Just as long as they retain Soucek.

The energetic midfielder has been a big hit since signing on loan in January.

West Ham have the option to buy Soucek permanently for £13.5million (The Guardian). And that was expected to be a mere formality if the Hammers avoided relegation (Claret and Hugh).

But ExWHUemployee, the same insider who reported West Ham’s interest in Rabiot, says Soucek’s future is uncertain.
