West Ham’s hopes of landing Moussa Marega have been dealt a blow. According to The Mirror, Wolverhampton Wanderers have moved into pole position for Marega.

Wolves lead Leicester City and West Ham in pursuit of the FC Porto striker. It is believed that Marega will cost £30m to sign.

West Ham have held a long-term interest in Marega and tried to sign him last summer (Sky Sports News). But the Hammers could miss out two seasons running if Wolves win this race.

Marega is a physical centre-forward who has been impressive in Portugal. Playing for Porto in the Primeira Liga and the Champions League, the Mali international has been scoring goals.

This season, the 28-year-old has scored 21 and provided 11 assists. This takes his overall Porto tally to 45 goals and 19 assists in 99 games.

West Ham have sent scouts to Portugal in the past and they have returned with glowing reports on Marega. With his pace and physical strength, Marega is a ‘target man’ striker.

The Hammers are looking for a new striker in the summer window. With Andy Carroll’s contract expiring and doubt surrounding the future of Lucas Perez and Javier Hernandez, this has become a priority.

Marega is one of a number of targets for the Irons. But West Ham could miss out with Wolves at the front of the queue for Marega now.
