West Ham have had an £18m bid for Andre Gomes turned down by Barcelona, according to Sky Sports News. The Spanish giants will demand between £25m and £35m for the midfielder.
Gomes spent last season on loan at Everton, where he settled in quickly and impressed. The hunt is on for his signature this summer but the Hammers are trying to win the race.
West Ham appear to have made Gomes their top target this summer. Manuel Pellegrini wants a ball-playing midfielder and Gomes fits the bill perfectly. West Ham will look to do all they can to get this deal over the line.
Who is Andre Gomes?
Gomes is a classy central midfielder who is comfortable doing his defensive and attacking duties. He has kept things ticking over at Everton and the Toffees unsurprisingly want him back.
But as Marco Silva’s men stall, West Ham could pounce. Gomes fits the profile of the midfield player West Ham need. And he is the perfect age to make a £25m gamble worthwhile.
In his career, the 25-year-old has played for Benfica, Valencia, Barcelona and Everton. His time at Barcelona was not as successful as he would have hoped but his other spells have been thoroughly impressive.
The 29-cap Portugal international has not made the squad for this summer’s UEFA Nations League finals. And this could give West Ham the chance to seal the deal for Gomes.
