According to a report from Italian media outlet Calco Mercato, West Ham are interested in signing Napoli ace Hirving Lozano in the summer.
The Hammers are in real trouble at the moment. And they need to ensure that they retain their Premier League status, if they are to go for elite players in the summer.
Lozano joined Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2019 for around €42 million (£36 million), according to Goal.
Calico Mercato claims that the 39-capped Mexico international has a €130 million (£113 million) release clause inserted into his current contract with the Serie A outfit.
The 24-year-old has struggled with Napoli, however. He has racked up just three goals and two assists in 25 outings so far this season (Transfermarkt).
In 16 league games for the Serie A outfit, the Mexico international has just two goals and one assist to his name. He has averaged just 1.3 shots, 0.8 dribbles and 0.8 key passes per game during those outings (Who Scored).
And Lozano is now wanted by West Ham, according to Calcio Mercato, in spite of his poor form this season.
If Napoli were to move him on, they would surely allow him to leave for a lot less than his massive release clause.
The Hammers will not have things all their own way, however. Everton are allegedly keen on Lozano (Area Napoli) and Wolves want him too (Calcio Mercato).
As things stand, however, West Ham signing the Mexican seems highly unlikely.
If they avoid the drop, though, then who knows what might happen.
