According to a report from the Telegraph, West Ham are one of four clubs who want to sign Liverpool ace Adam Lallana in the summer.
The 31-year-old Reds ace has battled injury problems for the past few years. And he has found himself on the periphery of Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI at Anfield.
When he is fully fit, however, he is one of the best play-making midfielders in the Premier League.
The Telegraph claims that West Ham are set to battle Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal for Lallana in the summer, when he will become a free agent.
Good option for the Hammers?
Let’s not sugar-coat it. Signing another injury prone player on the wrong side of 30 is probably not the direction West Ham should be heading.
The former Southampton man, who earns £110,000 per week at Liverpool according to Spotrac, has made just 26 Premier League appearances since the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
The Hammers are lacking that little bit of magic and creativity in the middle of the park, however. And it’s hard not to get excited about the possibility of having someone like Lallana in the team next season.
The 34-capped England international has played 194 Premier League games for Southampton and Liverpool. And in those outings, he has racked up 30 goals and 28 assists. The 31-year-old has made an average of 32.58 passes per game in those matches and has created 25 big chances (premierleague.com).
Lallana will be 32 before the start of next season, however, and he will undoubtedly demand huge wages.
Much will obviously depend on whether the Hammers manage to avoid relegation this season.
And if they do just that, Lallana’s availability on a free transfer might just be too hard to ignore. Sure, he’s past his best physically, but he might just be exactly what West Ham need.
