According to a report from the Mirror, West Ham want to sign Chelsea ace Ross Barkley on loan this month.
The Hammers are desperately short in central midfield, and need more athleticism, power and dynamism.
The east London outfit missed out on Gedson Fernandes to Tottenham.
They have also been linked with moves for Stoke City’s Joe Allen (The Express), and Genk ace Sander Berge (Bleacher Report).
And now the Mirror are claiming that West Ham want Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley.
Is Barkley what the Hammers need?
The 26-year-old joined Chelsea from Everton in January 2018 for a fee believed to be worth £15 million (BBC).
The 33-capped England international has struggled to establish himself at Stamford Bridge, however, racking up just seven goals and six assists in 63 appearances for the west London outfit.
Barkley, who earns £100,000 per week according to Spotrac, does possess all of the qualities that West Ham so desperately lack in the middle of the park, however.
On his day, the Chelsea ace is almost unplayable. He is powerful, has great technical ability and can move the ball from defence to attack with aplomb.
The 26-year-old does lack any kind of consistency, however. A move to West Ham might be the ideal solution for all parties involved though. The chance to play regularly could improve Barkley’s form. And it would then, in turn, increase his value, which would be good news for Chelsea obviously.
And if the Blues could be tempted to loan him out this month, he might just prove to be a useful addition for the Hammers, as they strive to avoid relegation down to the Championship.
