AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, who seems to be perpetually linked with a West Ham switch, is still an option for the upcoming transfer windows. A report by Italian media outlet Calciomercato has given a comprehensive update on his situation at AC Milan with mixed news for Hammers fans.
At this stage, AC Milan are still willing to let Kessie leave. The Ivory Coast midfielder was linked with a £22.5m move to Wolves and Monaco in the summer, as per this report, but he did not manage to secure a transfer.
West Ham were also linked with a summer move for Kessie. According to a report by The Express in June, West Ham were ready to battle Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur for Kessie.
After failing to secure his AC Milan exit in the summer, there has been talk about what the future holds for Kessie. But while he still remains up for sale, Kessie wants to turn things around. The 22-year-old has five months to convince Marco Giampaolo to keep him at the San Siro.
Franck Kessie for £22.5m: Worth the punt?
West Ham have spent lots of money on their midfield over the past two summer transfer windows. And it now seems like Manuel Pellegrini has the options he wants in the middle of the park.
But Kessie can offer something that West Ham’s other midfielders lack. The youngster is an energetic, box-to-box midfielder who sits deeper than the other options. While Jack Wilshere, Manuel Lanzini, Pablo Fornals and others operate in more attack-minded midfield roles, Kessie can sit behind them.
In that sense, he is like Declan Rice. But he possesses more attacking threat than the 20-year-old. He likes to get involved at both ends of the pitch. If AC Milan still want to get rid of him in January, this might be a shrewd move for West Ham. He could be an ideal Carlos Sanchez replacement at The London Stadium.
