Celta Vigo are ready to let teams start a bidding war for Maxi Gomez, according to The London Evening Standard. West Ham and Valencia are both expected to take part in this auction.

The Hammers have made Gomez their top transfer target this summer. West Ham are stepping up their pursuit of the Uruguay international after their opening £25m bid was rejected.

But Celta Vigo want to earn as much money as possible from the striker who has scored 30 goals in two years. He helped keep Celta Vigo up in 2018/19 and they are demanding a big price.

Gomez has a £43.5m release clause in his contract. Whether any club triggers that is yet to be seen. But Celta Vigo will hope for a bidding war to get the highest price possible.

West Ham need a new striker this summer. Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez have gone, Javier Hernandez will probably leave and Marko Arnautovic will be the only forward left.

This is why West Ham will be directing the majority of their attention towards the 22-year-old. He is young, hungry and a proven goalscorer in a top European league.

Mario Husillos and Manuel Pellegrini have an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish La Liga. So they know that Gomez will be an exciting summer addition. But West Ham will have to win the bidding war, fend off competition from Champions League side Valencia and then agree on personal terms.
