Another day, another West Ham striker rumour. According to TEAMtalk, West Ham are considering a big-money move for Boca Juniors striker Dario Benedetto.
The Hammers will be searching for at least one new striker this summer. Manuel Pellegrini has rotated his options this season but doubt surrounds the futures of all West Ham’s strikers.
This could lead to a move for Benedetto. It is believed that West Ham would need to bid around £20m to land Benedetto from Boca Juniors this summer.
Inter Milan and Roma have also checked up on Benedetto but he is said to prefer a move to the Premier League.
Who is Dario Benedetto?
Benedetto currently plays for Argentine giants Boca Juniors. Prior to this, he has had spells with Argentine trio Arsenal de Sarandi, Defensa y Justicia and Gimnasia.
Between 2013 and 2016, Benedetto played in Mexico. He represented Liga MX duo Tijuana and America while in the Mexican top-flight.
In summer 2016, the 5-cap Argentina international moved back to his home country and joined Boca Juniors. In his first two seasons back, he netted 40 goals, including 30 in just 34 league matches.
However, the 28-year-old’s form has dripped this season. With just four goals in 19 games (including two in 15 in the league), his hot goalscoring streak has dried up.
But West Ham are still reportedly interested in spending £20m on Benedetto. This would be a risky signing at that price and age.
