West Ham are reportedly sending ‘sirens’ over the signing of Guillermo Maripan. According to AS, the Hammers are willing to pay €12m (just over £10m) for Deportivo Alaves star Maripan.
But West Ham could be forced to cough up more than double that amount. Maripan has been rated at much higher than £10m. This transfer could exceed £20m.
According to a recent report by Marca, Alaves are resting Maripan so that he does not pick up an injury to jeopardise a €25m (around £21m) move to West Ham.
The Chile international is currently out injured and he will not be rushed back. West Ham could be forced to trigger his €25m release clause, making him more than double the €12m price that West Ham are plotting.
Who is Guillermo Maripan?
West Ham could be in the market for a new centre-back this summer. Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna have shared the role this season. But Winston Reid has been out since March 2018 with an injury and Reece Oxford’s future looks bleak at West Ham.
Manuel Pellegrini could move for fellow Chilean Maripan. The 25-year-old has been a top performer for Alaves this season, ranking among the best La Liga defenders in terms of tackling.
If Maripan can replicate his La Liga form in England, West Ham would have four impressing central defenders to choose between.
