West Ham are preparing for life without Issa Diop, according to reports in the French media. If Diop departs, West Ham will move for OGC Nice star Malang Sarr as his replacement, as per Nice-Matin.
Sarr is a top young talent and West Ham are not the only club chasing him. German pair Borussia Monchengladbach and Red Bull Leipzig also reportedly want Sarr this summer.
With just one year remaining on his current contract, Sarr could be on his way out. The 20-year-old will weigh up his options this summer with a move to West Ham possible.
Issa Diop to Manchester United rumour
Manchester United want to sign Diop from West Ham and are prepared to offer £45m plus a player in exchange, Sky Sports News reports.
West Ham do not want to sell the 22-year-old, who joined last summer from Toulouse, after an impressive debut season in England. The Frenchman was a regular in Manuel Pellegrini’s defence alongside Fabian Balbuena or Angelo Ogbonna.
But if Man United produce a big enough bid, he could plausibly depart. And if Diop leaves West Ham, Sarr has been identified as his replacement at centre-back.
Who is Malang Sarr?
Sarr plays for Nice in Ligue 1 and is one of the most promising young defenders in the division. The France U21 international has already played 99 senior games for Nice despite his young age.
Last season, Sarr played 38 games for the French top-flight club. He has established himself as a regular as the left-sided centre-back and he can even operate at left-back.
West Ham have clearly been scouting in France and Sarr could be the next success story. Sarr could be the ‘next Issa Diop’ if West Ham’s popular defender joins Man United.
