West Ham could bet set to battle it out with Newcastle in the race to sign Strasbourg striker Ludovic Ajorque this summer.

That’s according to a report from Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solekhol who claims that both the Hammers and Newcastle scouted the giant Frenchman in action on Sunday.

West Ham boss David Moyes has been linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old striker since January.

It now seems as though the Hammers will have to battle Newcastle for Ajorque though.

West Ham’s need for a striker is not as urgent as it was a couple of weeks ago. Gianluca Scamacca moved to the London Stadium from Sassuolo and that means that Moyes will now be nowhere near as desperate to add another striker to his ranks.

Meanwhile, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is still very keen to sign a top-class centre-forward…

West Ham and Newcastle want to sign Ludovic Ajorque

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solekhol claims that both Premier League clubs have recently scouted the 28-year-old Strasbourg ace.

The Toon obviously have more financial firepower than we do but that shouldn’t be an issue with Ajorque, considering his fairly low valuation.

Ajorque would be a decent addition for West Ham in my opinion and he’d certainly provide strong competition and cover for Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca.

Standing at 6ft 6in tall, he would be an obvious threat from set-pieces and could act as a great focal point to our attacking play.

The Frenchman bagged 12 goals and eight assists in 36 Ligue 1 games for Strasbourg last season as well, so he’s clearly pretty good in front of goal (Transfermarkt).

He could be signed for around €15 million (£12.5 million) according to Get Football News France.

That sounds like decent value to us. Remember though, Ajorque is totally unproven in the Premier League. So there is no guarantee that he would succeed.

Having said that, we still think he’d be worth the risk for £12.5 million.

Whether West Ham are able to beat Newcastle in the race for Ludovic Ajorque remains to be seen though.
