Report: West Ham need to make 'stratospheric offer' to get deadline day striker deal done

West Ham will allegedly need to make a huge offer to tempt Benfica into selling red-hot striker Darwin Nunez.

That’s according to a report from Record who claims that the Portuguese outfit are reluctant to sell the 22-year-old striker to the Hammers so late on in the window.

Record suggest that West Ham have lodged a €50 million (£42 million) bid for the Uruguay International.

That’s not enough though.

Benfica allegedly don’t have a replacement lined up and need to receive an offer that is quite simply too hard to refuse for Nunez, if they are to sell him so late on deadline day.

It seems as though it’s just more bad news following bad news today doesn’t it?

West Ham need to make huge Darwin Nunez bid for Benfica to sell

Record claims that it will take a ‘stratospheric offer’ from the Hammers, if we are to get a deal to sign the 22-year-old striker over the line before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Whilst the South American hitman is a ‘priority target’ for West Ham, it is claimed that he is a ‘fundamental’ figure for Benfica.

This seems like it will just be too complicated to get done today.

Moyes desperately needs to bolster his centre-forward ranks at the London Stadium before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

West Ham cannot continue to rely upon Michail Antonio as our only option through the middle.

It’s unfair on him as a player and for a club with aspirations of challenging for honours both domestically and on the continent, having one striker quite simply isn’t good enough.

Hopefully that will all change between now and 11pm tonight, however…

There are plenty of options out there, Darwin being one of them.

It’s just such a shame that the Hammers have once again left it so late on in the transfer window to try and get deals over the line.

As things stand, it would take a monumental effort from West Ham to bring the Uruguayan international to East London before the January transfer window slams shut.

And that is incredibly frustrating given the fact that the window has been open for 31 days…
