A new report claims West Ham are ‘more likely’ to get 12-goal striker with a very specific skill set in £12.6m summer move.
David Moyes is facing a major rebuild at West Ham this summer with as many as six to 10 new players required to overhaul the second oldest squad in the Premier League and replace those leaving, retiring or clearly not in the manager’s plans.
West Ham’s shallow squad have done Moyes and the club proud this season. Indeed the manager has worked a minor miracle with what he has available.
But anyone who was in doubt over West Ham’s need for at least one – if not two – new strikers in the summer need only take one look at Michail Antonio’s goal scoring record in 2022.
There has been a ridiculous over-reliance on the converted winger. Antonio started the season on fire but has scored just one Premier League goal in 2022 – way back on New Year’s Day.
With the transfer window opening in just over one month, speculation is already intensifying over who West Ham might look to sign.
Now a new report claims West Ham are ‘more likely’ to get a 12-goal striker with very specific skill set in £12.6m summer move.
The Hammers were linked with giant French forward Ludovic Ajorque in January (Foot Mercato).
That move did not materialise with his club Strasbourg apparently refusing to entertain any bids midway through a season.
Given West Ham’s proficiency from set-pieces, Ajorque would be a potentially lethal option.
He has scored 10 goals plus in each of the last four seasons and has 12 for Strasbourg so far this term.
And at a reported £12.6m he would be an absolute bargain in the grand scheme of things.
It could be clever business from West Ham if Ajorque is signed as an alternative option alongside another striker addition.
A club like West Ham needs to have different options to be successful over the course of a season.
Ajorque would certainly be that.
