German publication Kicker have updated yesterday’s claims regarding West Ham’s alleged interest in Hertha Berlin forward Salomon Kalou by suggesting that the Hammers have now made an offer for the Ivorian, with both clubs ‘pushing to get a deal done’.

Kicker claimed yesterday that the east London outfit had made an enquiry for the 34-year-old former Chelsea man.

West Ham desperately need more firepower in the centre-forward department. That’s even if they do manage to get a deal for exciting Hull winger Jarrod Bowen over the line.

And Kicker claims that the Hammers and Hertha Berlin are pushing hard to get a deal to take Kalou back to Premier League concluded before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Is the 97-capped Ivory Coast international is the answer for the Hammers?

Kalou has hardly been prolific with Hertha Berlin, with just 53 goals in 173 games to his name for the German club (Transfermarkt).

At 34, he is also well past his best. The 2009/10 Premier League winner can play anywhere along the front-line, however, and this might just appeal to David Moyes.

His stats from this season make for grim reading, however. Kalou has scored just one goal in five Bundesliga outings for Hertha. The 34-year-old has averaged just one shot and attempted only 0.2 dribbles per game in those outings. He has also averaged two unsuccessful touches per outing (Who Scored).

Bringing Kalou to the London Stadium would be a real panic move from the Hammers. They really should avoid signing the Ivorian, and target younger and hungrier strikers instead.
