David Moyes will be desperate to bring a couple of new centre-forwards to the London Stadium.
Sebastien Haller left West Ham for Ajax on Friday leaving Michail Antonio as the club’s only recognised senior centre-forward.
Caught Offside claims that the Hammers are attempting to solve that particular problem by signing Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic on loan with an option to buy.
The 23-year-old joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019 for around £55 million (AS).
At the same time, Sebastien Haller left the Bundesliga club for the Hammers for around £45 million (BBC).
The £100 million duo forged a wonderful partnership during their time together in Frankfurt. During the 2018/19 campaign, in 89 combined appearances, Jovic and Haller racked up a very impressive 47 goals and 19 assists between them.
West Ham Luka Jovic interest encapsulates scattergun approach
Signing Luka Jovic having sold Haller rather than reuniting the two would be an absolutely classic West Ham move. No planning. No vision. No idea.
Despite the Serbian’s struggles at the Bernabeu, he would still be a fine addition for West Ham on paper.
Signing a striker that flourished in a front three at Eintracht Frankfurt, however, would make little sense given the way David Moyes sets up his team.
It seems as though we should have kept Haller if we were planning to sign Jovic. But in true West Ham fashion, there was no plan.
Now the scattergun approach is underway and in full swing. If we sign Jovic, many fans will be happy. We can’t help but think he will be destined to fail at the London Stadium, however, much like his old teammate Haller was when he arrived at West Ham in the summer of 2019.
