West Ham will compete with two English clubs for Clermont Foot striker Florian Aye, according to reports.

As per The Sunday Mirror (via HITC Sport), West Ham, Leeds United and Southampton are considering a summer move for Aye.

The striker plays for Clermont Foot and could join to bolster West Ham’s attacking ranks. Meanwhile, Leeds will need reinforcements if they are promoted and Southampton need a goalscorer.

With Clermont Foot set for a mid-table finish, it looks increasingly likely that Aye will depart this summer. And a Premier League move could await.

Who is Florian Aye?

Aye plays for Clermont Foot in Ligue 2 and he has scored 17 goals in the French second-tier. The 22-year-old joined last summer from Auxerre and is enjoying his best season to date.

While Clermont Foot have little to play for, Aye ranks third in the top scorer list in Ligue 2. And the France youth international’s goals have not gone unnoticed.

Links with Aye will fail to inspire many West Ham fans, he could be a relatively low-cost risk. Diafra Sakho was once the top scorer in Ligue 2 and he was a revelation when he first joined West Ham.

Whether Aye can replicate that success or even do better remains to be seen. But surely he will not be West Ham’s only striker target.
