According to a report from Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, West Ham are leading the chase for Paderborn forward Streli Mamba.
The 25-year-old has been in decent form this year, scoring five goals in 10 outings for Paderborn.
The German outfit are really struggling this season, however, and are firmly rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga, six points adrift of safety.
The Hammers desperately need more firepower in the attacking department. They sold five forwards in the summer, and brought in only two. And it is clear to see that West Ham need more competition for the misfiring Sebastien Haller.
Whether Mamba is the man to help take the Hammers to another level, however, is debatable.
The 25-year-old does possess blistering pace, but he is hardly prolific.
Mamba has scored just 77 goals in 243 career appearances.
He is still at an age where he could improve further still, however.
The German-born forward has been described as ‘venomous’ by Bundesliga.com after his heroics against Borussia Dortmund at the weekend. And he clearly has potential.
So he could turn out to be an interesting addition for the Hammers.
West Ham will face competition from Italian side Atalanta and other German clubs according to Calcio Mercato, however.
