According to Bleacher Report, West Ham are leading a whole host of Premier League clubs in the race to sign Genk starlet Sander Berge.
The 21-year-old has already been capped 20 times by Norway. And he is one of the most highly sought after young players on the continent.
The Genk starlet is a deep-lying midfielder by trade, is classy in possession, but also does the simple, less glamorous jobs well.
The Hammers are crying out for a player like Berge. They are desperately short in the central midfield area. And signing someone like the young Norwegian would be a major statement from the east London outfit.
Bleacher Reports claims that West Ham are leading Liverpool, Aston Villa, Brighton and Sheffield United in the race to sign the 6ft 4in midfield powerhouse.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a massive fan of Berge. And he showered praise on him after his side met Genk in November (VG).
It is also suggested that the Hammers are confident of securing a deal for Berge for around £20 million.
And that would represent truly excellent value for West Ham.
Berge could go on to become one of the best players of his generation. And if the Hammers win the race to sign him, it could turn out to be a really significant piece of business for them.
