West Ham have made a last-minute bid for Alexis Claude-Maurice. According to French media outlet Le10Sport, West Ham have upped their bid in a late attempt to beat Borussia Monchengladbach to the young striker.
Claude-Maurice is wanted by a number of clubs, including West Ham. The Hammers need at least one new striker this summer after Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez left.
This prompted West Ham to make a £10m bid in early June, as per Sky Sports News. Now, this report by Le10Sport suggests West Ham have bid more than €10m (£9m), which is a higher offer than Monchengladbach’s.
Lorient had opened talks with Monchengladbach and Claude-Maurice was reportedly interested in the Bundesliga project. But Lorient are ready to cash in for as much as possible with West Ham bidding the most as things stand.
The race for Alexis Claude-Maurice
There are a host of clubs across Europe chasing Claude-Maurice. According to this report by Le10Sport, a clutch of Ligue 1 clubs including PSG, Monaco, Lyon, Lille and Nice want the French youth international.
But Claude-Maurice could leave France. After a stunning season in Ligue 2, Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach want him. However, West Ham will make a last-ditch attempt to win the race.
Sky Sports News recently published a report claiming 10 teams were in this hunt. Aside from the names mentioned above, French club Marseille and German outfit Red Bull Leipzig get a mention.
Premier League duo Brighton and Newcastle United will also rival the Hammers. But Claude-Maurice prefers a move to Arsenal, according to this report.
As this race hots up, West Ham will continue to try to win this race. Maxi Gomez remains the Irons’ priority (The London Evening Standard) but Claude-Maurice is a back-up option.
The 21-year-old is a versatile striker or winger who netted 14 goals in 35 Ligue 2 games last season. This proves he could be a talent to watch for the future.
