According to a report from TWTD, West Ham have scouted Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes on numerous occasions, and Paul Lambert has admitted that the 21-year-old could leave in the summer.
The Tractor Boys midfielder has been very impressive in League One this season.
He has racked up two goals and two assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for Ipswich (Transfermarkt).
In 29 League One outings, Downes has averaged 39.1 passes per game, with an incredibly impressive completion rate of 81.3% (Who Scored).
The 21-year-old has also averaged 2.5 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 0.9 clearances per game during those appearances (Who Scored).
And TWTD claims that the youngster has caught the eye of West Ham.
Downes is clearly a very exciting talent, and Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert has admitted that he could be sold this summer if a substantial offer is made for his services, as quoted by TWTD:
“Listen, it could well be [his last season at Portman Road]. As I’ve said before if someone comes in with a helluva lot of money are we in a position to turn it down? No, we’re not. In my opinion he’s the best midfielder in the league.”
That is high praise indeed from Lambert.
Quite how much West Ham would have to pay in order to prise Downes away from Portman Road, however, is unclear.
If the Hammers are as impressed with the midfielder as the report claims they are though, they will surely test Ipswich’s resolve in the summer with an offer for the 21-year-old.
