West Ham have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Vedat Muriqi. According to Turkish media outlet Sabah, West Ham are one of seven clubs in Europe watching Fenerbahce star Muriqi.
The powerful 6ft 4in striker only joined Fenerbahce in the summer after leaving Caykur Rizespor. He scored 25 goals for Rizespor and has already netted twice in three games for Fenerbahce.
Muriqi has also taken his form into the international break. The Kosovo international was being watched as he scored against the Czech Republic. A few days later, he produced a masterclass against England, providing two assists and scoring a penalty. He earned the penalty after Harry Maguire’s foul and he gave the England and Manchester United star a torrid evening.
West Ham and Spurs are joined by Italian trio AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli in their admiration for Muriqi. Spanish pair Atletico Madrid and Valencia are also in the race. Meanwhile, a report by The Express claims that Man United have been scouting the 25-year-old.
Where would Vedat Muriqi fit in?
Muriqi is a strong striker who has the physical attributes to become a Premier League star. He scores goals and can bring others into play. But West Ham need to do a lot more scouting before this move.
The Hammers currently have Sebastien Haller thriving in the centre-forward role, having scored three in as many Premier League games. Albian Ajeti is his deputy but West Ham fans have not seen enough of him yet.
But there is a vacancy in West Ham’s striker department after Javier Hernandez’s departure. At the right price, this might be an interesting gamble. He is in the mould of Andy Carroll but he has a better injury and goal record. Is it worth the punt?
