According to a report from the Daily Mail, West Ham are interested in signing Nottingham Forest ace Matty Cash this month.

The 22-year-old has really impressed for Forest this season, racking up two goals and four assists in 26 Championship outings mostly from the right-back position.

Cash is versatile and can also play in the right midfield position or in central midfield.

The Daily Mail claims that West Ham are interested in the versatile youngster, but will face competition from AC Milan for his signature.

Good signing?

West Ham don’t have a great history of signing players from the Championship. Sam Byram and Jordan Hugill spring to mind.

But it could be argued that Forest ace Cash is an entirely different kettle of fish to those two names mentioned.

The Sun claims that he is valued at around £12 million by the east Midlands outfit, and in this day and age, that would represent decent value for money for the Hammers.

Cash possesses real energy and plays with an infectious enthusiasm. The 22-year-old would provide genuine competition for Ryan Fredericks when the West Ham man returns from injury, and should be able to help bring out the best in the former Fulham right-back.

The Hammers are facing the very real prospect of relegation down to the Championship this season. And signing Cash would go a long way to helping them climb the table.

Whether they can beat Milan in the race for the Forest star’s signature, however, remains to be seen.
