West Ham have been linked with yet another central midfielder. According to The Daily Mail, Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is a target for West Ham.
Leicester City also want the Scotland international. But Aston Villa are desperate to keep McGinn after a superb debut season in England. He scored their winning goal in the play-off final at Wembley to seal a return to the Premier League.
And now the Villans are ready to offer him a long-term contract to fend off interest from Leicester and West Ham. The plan is to tie down McGinn until at least 2022.
Who is John McGinn?
McGinn joined Aston Villa from Hibernian last summer for just £3m (The Daily Mail). He has been one of the bargains of the summer 2018 window.
The left-footed midfielder scored seven goals and provided 10 assists for Aston Villa last season. And his most important contribution was his headed winner in the Championship play-off final against Derby County.
McGinn won Aston Villa’s Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year to show the club’s appreciation of his talent. Therefore, it is no surprise to see West Ham are interested in the 24-year-old.
But while McGinn is a talented player, West Ham’s hopes of luring him to East London look slim. He seems content at Aston Villa and could sign a contract extension.
