Report: West Ham have loan offer for Moussa Marega rejected

According to a report French media outlet Foot Mercato, West Ham have been knocked back with a loan bid to sign Porto hitman Moussa Marega.

The Hammers are desperately short in the attacking department. £45 million summer signing Sebastien Haller is failing to impress at the London Stadium, having scored just six goals this season.

If West Ham are to climb away from relegation trouble, David Moyes must surely sign another established hitman before the end of the transfer window.

Foot Mercato claimed that the Hammers attempted to solve their attacking woes by making a loan move for Moussa Marega, but Porto rejected their advances.

Should West Ham go back in for the Mali international hitman?

The 28-year-old has been in fine goalscoring form over the past three years for Porto, racking up 51 strikes in his last 110 games (Transfermarkt).

He scored 21 goals for Porto last season.

Marega’s form has dipped this season, however, with just seven goals in 25 games. Perhaps a sign of decline? Maybe.

In 14 league outings for Porto this season, he has averaged just 2.1 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game. He has also lost possession 2.7 times per game during that period (Who Scored).

The Premier League is much more intense and frenetically paced that the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

And that could prove difficult for Marega to adjust to.

He is explosive, powerful and fast, however, according to a scouting report from .Soccer Souls.

Signing him would obviously be a risk for West Ham. But perhaps they need to take a risk, considering their current plight.

Marega could be a hit at the London Stadium, but equally, he could struggle. It just depends on how prepared the Hammers owners are to take a punt before the transfer window slams shut.
