According to a report from French publication Le 10 Sport, West Ham have had a bid rejected for Marseille ace Morgan Sanson, and will have to up their offer to at least €35 million (£29.7 million) if they want to sign the 25-year-old this month.
Central midfield is an area where the Hammers really need to strengthen.
Declan Rice has been outstanding over the past 18 months, but his partner Mark Noble is not getting any younger.
French media outlet Le 10 Sport claims that West Ham have identified Sanson as the ideal addition this month, but it will cost them upwards of £29.7 million to being him to the London Stadium.
Good signing…but a lot of money
Sanson, 25, is a very decent player. He is comfortable in possession, and has a great eye for a pass.
The problem is that £29.7 million is a lot of money for the Frenchman. It could also be argued that West Ham actually need more of a physical presence in midfield. A tenacious tackler with pace and power should be topping David Moyes’s wish-list, not a technically proficient play-maker.
The West Ham owners are very careful with their money at the best of times, so it is highly unlikely that they will lay out such a large amount of cash for someone who is totally unproven in the Premier League.
And that’s fine. The Hammers should look elsewhere. Sanson is a very good player, and would be a decent addition. But not at the price being reported.
