Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden. According to The Chronicle, Spurs have joined Crystal Palace and West Ham in this race.
Hayden is set to leave Newcastle this summer. Despite being a fan favourite at St James’ Park, he needs to move down south for family reasons.
According to The Times, the ex-Arsenal midfielder has told the club he needs to leave. He wants to see his young daughter more regularly than he does currently.
West Ham could be one option for Hayden. But it appears that rivals Tottenham will provide competition for his signature. And Crystal Palace are a third option in London.
If Hayden leaves, Newcastle want it to be on their terms. The Magpies will demand anywhere between £15m and £20m for the central midfielder, who has been a key part of Rafa Benitez’s plans.
Who is Isaac Hayden?
Hayden is a central midfielder who has impressed with his tackling and passing range. He has been a regular in central midfield for Benitez despite everyone knowing he wants to leave.
The 24-year-old fits the bill for what West Ham are looking for. The Hammers want a new central midfielder to sit alongside Declan Rice in central midfield.
And with Andy Carroll leaving, bringing in another Englishman would be ideal. Chelmsford-born Hayden would surely be tempted by a move to West Ham for family reasons.
But Spurs could offer him Champions League football and this factor could tilt this pursuit into the North London club’s favour.
