Everton have taken an important step in the race to sign alleged West Ham target Sami Khedira according to a report from Calcio Mercato.
The Hammers were linked with a move to sign the Juventus midfielder earlier in the year (Calcio Mercato).
Juve News then claimed earlier this week that David Moyes could imminently be set to open talks to bring the 33-year-old ace to the London Stadium.
That all appears to have changed now, however, with Calcio Mercato suggesting that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has taken an ‘important step’ to bring Khedira to Goodison Park.
The German World Cup winner has experienced terrible injury problems over the past few years. He is still a top class player, however.
In fact, Calcio Mercato describe the Juve ace as the ‘prototype of the perfect player for every coach’.
Khedira has won pretty much all there is to win in the game including numerous league titles, the Champions League and the World Cup.
The German will be a useful addition for whichever club wins the race for his signature.
And judging by Calcio Mercato’s report, it appears as though the Toffees hold the upper hand on the Hammers at the moment.
Khedira is a top quality midfielder. He may well flourish at Everton, if Ancelotti does indeed end up bringing him to Merseyside.
The German has the talent and the experience to do a job for the Toffees.
West Ham fans shouldn’t be too disappointed, however. David Moyes is trying to build a young, energetic and vibrant squad at the London Stadium.
Khedira clearly doesn’t fit into that vision. So perhaps missing out on the German will be a blessing in disguise for the Hammers.
