West Ham defender Ajibola Alese is set to join Accrington Stanley on loan, according to Sky Sports. As per Sky Sports’ Live Blog, Alese is closing in on a deadline day switch to Accrington until January.
League One and League Two clubs have until 17:00 today to sign new players. And just before the transfer window slams shut, Accrington have moved to sign Alese and bolster their defence.
Alese nearly joined Slaven Bilic and Grady Diangana at West Bromwich Albion before the Championship window closed. But the Baggies were put off by West Ham’s loan fee demands. Instead, he will be joining Accrington in League One.
Perfect loan move for Ajibola Alese?
Alese is a highly-rated young defender who is a mainstay in the U23 defence. Last season, he graduated from the U18s to the U23s and made the step up with aplomb. He is a commanding and physical central defender with the ability to carry the ball out of defence.
The England U19 defender has played more than 20 games in the Premier League 2 for the Hammers. But now he needs to test himself in senior football. This move to Accrington could be the making of Alese.
At the Wham Stadium, he joins a side who have picked up just four points from their opening five games. It could be a relegation battle for the 18-year-old, which will be a good test of his mental character, as well as his footballing ability.
